Trying to do VR dev, Unreal engine to Meta Quest 2

It was an abysmal experience to say at least. Juggling through plugins and android sdks and ndks. Only to have startup projects keep failing to build, or build but when loaded on to the VR headset (meta quest 2) it just fails to run.

When I had something running last night, this morning another build with a minor change in the game logic and try to load again, the app just doesn't respond and freezes

So I just put my own game assets and logic inside another working project from unreal to test it…

Hours wasted just to get things running

I wonder is unity better for VR?

So I downloaded the unity game engine and built their vr template onto my meta quest 2. The unity game engine process is so much easier you simply need to load their android package and specify your build, they have a script that detects your connected device (though check for quest 2 USB connection is another matter) it builds and deploys the app. Then the app runs smoothly

Modern tech might suck, but you can still find redeeming qualities
