Who is the brains behind ChatGPT?

Looking at Sam Altman's Wikipedia page, he appears to have never accomplished anything in his life:

His rise to prominence was in co-founding the company Loopt as a 19-year old. The fate of the company is summed up by this sentence from his Wikipedia page:

"As CEO, Altman raised more than $30 million in venture capital for the company; however, Loopt failed to gain traction with enough users. In March 2012, it was acquired by the Green Dot Corporation for $43.4 million."

So, he was able to raise $30 million for it, by being charismatic, but the company was a failure, and then again by using his charisma he was able to sell his worthless company for $43.4 million.

Then he was able to leverage this experience to propel his career as a tech businessman, joining the board of y combinator, and various other appointments.

Reading his bio, he does not strike me as an innovator. He is a salesman plain and simple. His job is to talk to people. He is likely the kind of psychopath who is very good at acting like he's not a psychopath, and the people in charge like this quality about him because it puts the masses at ease, which is why they made him CEO.

Since Sam Altman, the face of the company, is not the brains of the company, this makes me wonder: Who is the real brains of ChatGPT/OpenAI?

It was probably more his contacts rather than "charisma" that caused people to hand him lots of money. The idea that you have lots of money thrown at you for "being charismatic" is a weird and disturbing fantasy.

This is how it is though, to become successful in Silicon Valley you have to convince venture capitalists to give you money and this involves being charismatic. To break in and get investor money at age 19, you have to act like you know what you are doing when really you don't, and this is pure charisma. Connections wouldn't work, because what Altman did was screw over his investors to jumpstart his career - would anyone do this to their friends and family? Better to drain someone else's network than your own, and if you are charismatic you can convince some stupid random investors to invest in your shitty idea.
