Why are interracial marriage rates so high in Utah?

I grew up in an area with a relatively large Mormon population, and I remember as soon as the Mormon men in my class graduated high school, they would got married. One thing I found strange was that lots of them seemed to marry Hispanic women, despite the fact that the Mormon church has a history of racism, and despite the fact that the Mormon church has historically been a very white church.

One thing to keep in mind is that the figure listed is percentage who are in an interracial marriage, which isn't an ideal figure since it does not account for the relative sizes of the populations. For example, if the white population is 1% of the city, and 1% of whites in the city get married to non-whites, this means that whites in that city very racist, as evidenced by the fact that they all almost universally choose to marry their own kind despite being completely surrounded by non-whites.

On the other hand, if the white population of a city is 99%, and 1% of the city is non-white, then if 1% of whites marry non-whites, this means that the whites in that city marry nearly all the non-whites that are available, which is a sign that they are non-racist and pro-racemixing.

One might think whites in Honolulu are non-racist, because whites have an interracial marriage rate of 34% in that city, which is very high compared to the national average of 10%. But when you consider that whites are only 18% of Honolulu's population, this means that only .18*.34/(1-.18)=7% of non-whites in Honolulu are married to whites.

Now let's consider Ogden, Utah. In Ogden, 16% of whites are married to non-whites, which is higher than the national average, although not as high as Honolulu. But then when you consider that Ogden is 75% white, this means that .75*.16/(1-.75)=50% of nonwhites are married to whites. This is unusually high.

Just to show this is not just a product of having a large white population relative to nonwhite population, Asheville NC also has a 75% white population, but in Asheville only 1% of whites are married to nonwhites. This means just .01*.75/(1-.75)=3% of non-whites are married to whites.

Yes, I think so. I think young Mormon men want a serious marriage, and they recognize that white women just are not marriage material.

I don't think it makes a person immoral, but it fits the definition of racist.

It could be that they would want to marry white females but the regime outbids them for white females. If the females can get paid a fortune for turning up a Twitter, eating a lot of food and drinking red wine on tap while whoring it up with various dirtbags in their copious spare time, then of course they are going to do that instead of marrying some Joe Sixpack.
