What is a Mikraite?   (Re: What is Biblic Judaism?)
This looks interesting. I agree that there is a 'market' for a 'community' of people who agree on a Jewish approach to life. Personally I cannot convert at the moment because of family reasons but I have converted '/ adopted formally to Humanistic Judaism. But I think this approach means that we are Jewish by consent, not by descent. And it could go far, I will 'watch this space'

...: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Biblic Judaism is living by the God of the Hebrew Bible. The God of the Hebrew Bible is my god. People who keep the Sabbath, who dress modestly and have no tattoos, and who make this declaration sincerely are...

No Tattoos   (Re: What is Biblic Judaism?)
...I thought the torah stated the same for tatoos as it did for cutting the skin and/or for shaving ones head. As I have read these passages, I understood them as a prohibition not to do those acts as acts of mourning the dead vs. doing them as a lifestyle choice.... I didnt understand that the torah......

No Tattoos   (Re: What is Biblic Judaism?)
...I hope you don't mind that I moved your post to this thread where it seems more relevant. The plain meaning is enough for me, and I would......

What is a Mikraite?   (Re: What is Biblic Judaism?)
Thanks, Franklin. Of course, first the basic have to be learned, but I'm sure you're well aware of the importance of genre and literary composition for meaning.

I changed my mind on this. It's too wordy. I prefer just using the current format with the interrogative words "who". We can just assume everyone knows what these two terms map to.

No Tattoos   (Re: What is Biblic Judaism?)
I heard in ancient times the Huns scar there faces while they mourn their dead by slicing their cheeks open, so blood and tears can flow together

No Tattoos   (Re: What is Biblic Judaism?)
...Is there a particular reason why "No Tattoos" is one of the four major rules of Mikraite? It seems like a minor rule to me and one that should not be considered as important as the others. Also, what about people that already have tattoos before joining Mikraite? Should they try to get them......

Here is a video about the Israel Lobby by Al Jazeera: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/50555.htm Nothing surprising for me here, just the expected dirty tricks and buying off the American government.
