That's a good demonstration of the effect of domestication. Human domestication started with civilization. It's all downhill from then on.

You could argue that the human children are assuming there is some long term or external importance to the actions, which would often be the case.

That is the case, in other words, they are obedient. People are indoctrinated from an early age (aka "education"), most of them never question it. Wild animals and a chosen few people still have their intuition intact.
